Unaffordable hike in power bills
Srinagar, June 23: Notwithstanding the continuous hike in power bills Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) and JK Pensioners United Front (JKPUF) has demanded a prompt action for reduction of the electricity bills and streamlining of the power tariff in the interest and benefit of common man.
In a statement Chairman JKCSF and that of JKPUF Abdul Qayoom Wani has expressed concern against the significant hike in monthly electricity bills, which it deems unjust and unaffordable. Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani said that abrupt 80 percent increase in electricity bills, has left residents in a state of distress. JKCSF and JKPUF criticised the Power Development Department (PDD), alleging irregular electricity supply alongside what they perceive as unfair billing practices persisting for several months, causing inconvenience and financial strain. “Consumers used to receive monthly electricity bills of Rs 350 then 750 then 1080, which were then raised to Rs 1300. Now, without any prior notice, it has been further hiked finally to Rs 2080,” said the statement.
