Ukrainian, US negotiators urge Russia to show ‘serious commitment’ to peace

New Delhi, Dec 6: Senior Ukrainian and US negotiators have urged Russia to demonstrate a “serious commitment to long-term peace” after high-level talks in Moscow earlier this week failed to yield a breakthrough, reports BBC.

In a joint statement issued after two days of discussions in Florida, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Ukraine’s national security council secretary Rustem Umerov said the path to ending the war depends on Russia’s willingness to take “credible steps toward de-escalation and cessation of killing.”

The talks, attended by US President Donald Trump’s adviser Jared Kushner, will continue for a third day on Saturday.

The Florida round follows Witkoff’s nearly five-hour meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday.

The Kremlin later said no compromise had been reached on the draft US peace proposal but indicated Putin was prepared to keep talking.
