UK, France and Germany say they did not participate in US-Israel strikes on Iran
New Delhi, Feb 28: The United Kingdom, France and Germany have said they did not take part in the joint US and Israeli strikes carried out earlier in the day, even as they condemned Iran’s retaliatory attacks in the region, the BBC reported.
In a joint statement, British Prime Minister, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz clarified their position amid escalating tensions.
“We did not participate in these strikes, but are in close contact with our international partners, including the United States, Israel and partners in the region,” the three leaders said, reaffirming their “commitment to regional stability and to the protection of civilian life.”
At the same time, they strongly criticised Tehran’s response. “We condemn Iranian attacks on countries in the region in the strongest terms. Iran must refrain from indiscriminate military strikes,” the statement said, urging Iran’s leadership to pursue a negotiated solution.
The three European powers also reiterated their longstanding demands that Iran end its nuclear programme, curb its ballistic missile development and halt what they described as destabilising activities in the region, while calling for an end to repression within the country.
