Ujala Cygnus, Amandeep BR Medicity team successfully treat complex biliary case

Srinagar, Nov 21: Ujala Cygnus, in collaboration with the Amandeep BR Medicity team, has successfully treated a highly complex biliary case involving gallbladder stump lithiasis with choledocholithiasis. The surgery was performed by Dr Parvez Malik, Senior Consultant in the General and Laparoscopic Surgery division at Amandeep BR Medicity.

The patient, who had undergone an open cholecystectomy in 2004, was diagnosed in July 2025 with gallbladder stump stones and common bile duct stones. Although an ERCP was carried out for the bile duct stones, the patient continued to experience unresolved symptoms related to the gallbladder stump and, after visiting multiple institutions, was eventually referred to Amandeep BR Medicity.

Dr Malik and his team performed a revision biliary surgery entirely through laparoscopic techniques. Hospital authorities said the procedure demanded meticulous expertise, given the high risk of biliary injury in such cases.

The hospital reported that the patient is recovering well post-operatively, crediting the outcome to the coordinated efforts of the surgical department, anaesthesia consultant Dr Basharat, and the operating theatre team.
