UGC debars 3 universities in Rajasthan from enrolling students for Ph.D programmes

Srinagar, Jan 16: The University Grants Commission has debarred the three Universities in Rajasthan from enrolling the students for Ph.D prgrammes for the next five years from the 2025-26 academic session.

The decision has been announced by the Secretary UGC Prof. Manish R Joshi on basis of the recommendation put forth by the standing committee of the UGC.

The Universities which have been debarred from enrolling the students for Ph.D programme include OP JS University Churu, Sunrise University Alwar and Singhania University Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan.

The UGC has advised the prospective students and the parents not to take admission in the Ph.D programme offered by these three universities from now onwards. "In the absence of UGC approval, Ph.D awarded by these universities shall not be treated or recognised for the purpose of higher education and employment," and official communication issued by IGC reads.

It reads that a Standing Committee has been constituted by the UGC to monitor whether Universities are following the procedure and awarding Ph.D. degrees in accordance with the UGC Regulations.

"One of the mandates of this Standing Committee is to suggest corrective measures and recommend action to be taken against erring Universities," it reads.

The official communication reads that after analysing and examining the information submitted by the universities, the standing committee has found that three universities did not follow the provisions of the UGC Ph.D regulations and also the academic norms for the award of the Ph.D degrees.

"These universities were given an opportunity to explain why they failed to comply with the provisions of the UGC Ph.D regulations. However the responses received from these universities were not found satisfactory," it reads.

It reads that the standing committee has thus recommended that the UGC may debar these universities form enrolling Ph.D students for the next five years.

"Keeping in view the recommendations given by the Standing Committee, it has been decided to debar these three Universities from enrolling scholars under Ph.D. program for the next five years i.e. from the academic year 2025-26 to 2026-30," the UGC communication reads.
