Udhampur Police books drug peddler under PIT NDPS Act

Ramban, Sep 27: Udhampur Police have detained a notorious drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act as part of their ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.

According to police, the accused, Makhan Din, son of Hakim Din and a resident of Narsoo, Tehsil Chenani, District Udhampur, was taken into custody on Saturday, following formal detention orders issued by the competent authority.

As per the police this marks the 11th detention under the PIT NDPS Act by Udhampur Police in 2025, highlighting their intensified efforts to curb the drug menace in the region.

Police officials stated that the accused is a habitual offender, repeatedly involved in drug peddling and actively promoting substance abuse among local youth, posing a serious threat to public health and safety.

The detention order was executed by a team from Police Station Chenani, and the accused has been lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, official added.
