Srinagar, Oct 24: Russian president Vladimir Putin has said that the chain reaction of the war in West Asia or Middle East has put the whole region on the verge of a full-scale war.

Putin was addressing a BRICS meeting in Kazan which was attended by several top world leaders including, China's Xi Jinping, India's Modi, and other global leaders.

BRICS – which initially comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China and later South Africa – has expanded rapidly to embrace Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Turkey, Azerbaijan and Malaysia have formally applied to become members, and a few other countries have expressed interest in joining.

Violence in the region would not end until Palestinians are given an independent state, Putin said at the summit, Al Jazeera reported.

Israel's military action that started a year ago in Gaza has now spread to Lebanon while other countries are also affected, Putin said.

“The level of confrontation between Israel and Iran has sharply risen. This is all reminiscent of a chain reaction and puts the whole Middle East on the verge of full-scale war,” Putin said.

The key to restoring peace and stability on Palestinian territories is to implement the two-state formula approved by the UN Security Council and General Assembly, said the Russian president.

This would help to solve the historical injustices towards the people of Palestine, he said.

“Until this question is resolved, it will not be possible to break the vicious circle of violence," he said.
