Two Kashmir teachers to receive national award

The teachers will be awarded at the National Level Conference organised by NIEPA, New Delhi.

Srinagar, Jan 3: In a positive development, the two teachers from Kashmir valley have been selected to receive National award which will be conferred to them in New Delhi.

The teachers to be awarded are Rehana Kaunsar head teacher Government Boys Middle School Yarikalan in zone Chadoora Budgam and Javed Ahmad Banday Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Beerwah.

The teachers will be awarded at the National Level Conference of National School Leadership Conference (NSLC) organised by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi. The function is scheduled from January 8 and 10 of 2025.

Taking to social media, Rehana Qaunsar expressed her excitement for being selected for the award.

"This achievement is not just personal but a collective success of our entire school team, cluster, zone, and district. It is a testament to the dedication and teamwork that has made GBMS Yarikalan shine on such a prestigious platform," Rehana Qaunsar said.

She said the selection process for this conference was incredibly rigorous, celebrating innovative practices in school leadership.

"Our elementary school stands proud among two Higher Secondary Schools selected from Jammu & Kashmir in the elite group of 55 schools across India," she said.

At the conference Rehana Qaunsar will be speaking about her school’s innovative practices, focus on Competency-Based Education (CBE) under NEP 2020, and the efforts that brought meaningful transformation for students, teachers, and the school environment.

She further suggested the aspiring educators that to achieve such recognition, they should address challenges as a team and implement solutions that enhance teaching and learning.

"You should keep detailed records aligned with NEP 2020 goals and engage with leadership forums by sharing practices with SLA SCERT and participate in workshops and events," she said.
Both the teachers have received greeting from the department particularly the teaching community.

“Heartiest congratulations to Javed Ahmed Banday, Principal BHSS Beerwah (National Awardee) and Rehana Kaunsar, head teacher GBMS Yarikalan on receiving the National School Leaders Award 2025 for innovative school governance and pedagogy," the School Education Department (SED) extended greeting to the duo through a social media post.
