Srinagar, Apr 08: In its sustained efforts to root out the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Anantnag today apprehended two drug peddlers and seized significant quantities of contraband substances in two separate actions.

A police official in a statement said that acting on specific information, a checkpoint was established by a police team of Police Station Aishmuqam at Bashnaar. During the checking, one individual identified as Muzaffer Ahmed Shah, son of Latief Shah, resident of Hardkichloo Aishmuqam was apprehended.

During search, an official said approximately 10 Kgs, 270 grams of Charas Powder was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 11/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Aishmuqam and further investigation has been taken up.

In another action, a police party from Police Post Khanabal apprehended one person, identified as Khayam Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Gani, resident of Batangoo, at Shohal Batangoo. Upon search, the team recovered 07 Kgs of poppy straw from his possession. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway, an official said.

J&K Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking and urges the general public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling or other anti-social activities in their areas, an official added.
