Ayaan and Aruba, 10-year-old twin siblings, were the epitome of childhood joy, their smiles infectious and their laughter music to the ears of those who knew them. Their father, Rameez Khan, a multipurpose employee of the School Education Department, had provided for his family with love and care. Their mother, a homemaker, had nurtured them with devotion but in an instant, their world was turned upside down.

The artillery shelling that rocked Poonch town on Wednesday claimed the lives of these two precious children. Ayaan, a bright student of Class 5th, and Aruba, a curious learner of Class 4th, both students of Christ School Poch, were torn from their family’s arms in the blink of an eye.

Mohammad Saleem Malik, a close relative of victims said that the family was living in rented accomodation at Christ School Mohalla and the family decided to leave their rented accommodation and return to their village when the street infront of their rented accommodation exploded causing deaths of siblings and injuries to their father. As news of their passing spread, the community was overcome with grief. The streets that once echoed with the twins’ laughter were now filled with tears and wails of despair.
