Turquoise Jewellery: Last man Standing

Mohammad Hanief, an artisan from Fateh Kadal in Downtown Srinagar, learned the intricate craft of turquoise jewellery making from his father. The craft was flourishing back then and Hanief’s father made a decent living out of it. Today, Hanief is the last remaining artisan associated with this craft, as others have moved on, leaving the tradition in decline. Despite his efforts to keep the art alive through avenues such as social media, his calls for governmental intervention to support and revive the art have gone unanswered.
