Trump threatens 100% tariffs on foreign-made films
New Delhi, May 5: US President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose 100% tariffs on movies made in foreign countries, escalating his global trade disputes. He claimed the move was necessary to save America’s film industry, which he said is rapidly declining due to foreign incentives attracting productions away from the US.
Trump described the issue as a national security threat and said the US Commerce Department and Trade Representative would begin implementing the plan.
However, it remains unclear how the tariffs would be applied, whether to streaming content, films shot abroad by US studios, or cinema releases. Industry groups and unions warned the measure could damage the global film sector and hurt thousands of workers. Critics also raised concerns over possible retaliation from other countries.
