Trump deploys National Guard, takes control of DC Police

New Delhi, Aug 12: US President Donald Trump has declared a public safety emergency in Washington DC, deploying 800 National Guard troops and placing the city’s police department under direct federal control.

The move follows a week-long surge in federal law enforcement in the capital.

Officials said the National Guard will begin arriving by the end of the week, with 100–200 personnel deployed at a time to support local operations. Under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, the president can assume control of the city’s police force for up to 30 days during emergencies.
