Trump-Biden face-off likely for US Presidential elections
New Delhi, Jan 24: In the race for the US presidency, signs point to a potential repeat of the 2020 election face-off between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Trump today, secured a decisive victory in the New Hampshire Republican primary, leading his closest competitor, Nikki Haley, by 12 points with 90% of votes counted.
This win follows his success in the Iowa Caucus and solidifies his position as the probable Republican nominee. Despite the setback, Haley remains determined, promising to continue her campaign until the South Carolina primary, her home state.
Meanwhile, Trump, in a display of confidence, labeled Haley an “imposter” during his victory speech and showcased endorsements from former rivals Vivek Ramaswamy and Tim Scott.
The tension between Trump and Nikki Haley escalated on social media, with Trump taking to Truth Social to disparage Haley, repeatedly calling her “birdbrain,” a moniker he has used since last year. His posts highlighted her poor performance in Iowa and her decision to skip the Nevada Caucus due to unfavorable polling.
On the democratic side, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Biden ally, appeared on CNN to discuss the election landscape. Moore noted the Democratic Party’s recognition of Trump as the likely Republican nominee, setting the stage for a Biden-Trump rematch.
Internationally, the US presidential election garners significant attention due to America’s global influence. Current US involvement in conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Yemen, and rising tensions with Iran and China, along with deteriorating US-China relations and increased tensions in the Asia Pacific, highlight the importance of American leadership. The growing number of Central American migrants at the US border further underscores this.
While some countries anticipate the potential return of Republican Donald Trump, many Americans view the prospect with reservations, reflecting the polarised opinions surrounding his candidacy. As the election approaches, the world watches closely, aware of the far-reaching implications of the US presidential race.
