Tributes paid to legendary writer Gowhar on his 6th death anniversary
Chrar-i-Sharief, July 22: Glowing tribute were paid to legendary writer, jurist and novelist late Gh Nabi Gowhar on his 6th death anniversary ,at an impressive literary function organised by Sahitya Academy New Delhi and Kashmir Markaz Adab w Saqafat in association with Gowhar Memorial Trust , at Life foundation School Charar-i -Sharief.
Justice (retired ) Bashir Ahmad Kirmani was the chief guest. Convenor Kashmiri Advisory Board , Sahitya Academy Shad Ramzan , members of the Kashmiri Advisory Board ,Sahitya Academy , Dr Sohan Koul , Mohd Amin Bhat , Daali Tickoo Arwal and Chairperson Gowhar Memorial Trust ,Begum Haseena Akhtar shared the presidium.
On this occasion , KMAWS and Gowhar Memorial Trust conferred this year's Gowhar Memorial Award to Naat Khawan Abul Hassan Farooqi. The award carries a citation , Kashmiri shawl and cash of Rs 10,000.
KMAWS also honoured noted calligrapher Mohd Hussain Wahthori on this occasion.
Justice Kirmani in his presidential address while paying glowing tributes to late Gh Nabi Gowhar said that Gowhar was a multitalented personality whose contribution to Kashmiri culture and literature would be remembered for long. He said his writings are the cultural , social and political reflection of Kashmiri history adding that one who wants to understand Kashmir politics in depth , should read novels of Gowhar. He urged the need to remember "our literary figures to enrich younger generations about our social and political traditions."
Convenor Kashmiri Advisory Board Sahitya Academy, Shaad Ramzan in his inaugural address while paying tribute to Gowhar said that he took the Kashmiri literature to the next level by blurring the difference between fact and fiction .
Member of the Kashmiri Advisory Board Sahitya Academy , Dr Sohan Koul presented a keynote address and gave a comprehensive overview of the content of the novels of Gowhar . President Adbi Markaz Kamraz Mohd Amin Bhat and prominent writer Prof Mohd Zaman Azurda also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the life and contribution of Gowhar. Mushtaq Mehram read a paper on the contribution of Gowhar to Kashmiri poetry . He urged the need for an in depth study of his literary works.
Ali Ahsan ,Inayat Gul , Mohd Yousf Shaheen and G. N Adfar also presented exhaustive papers on the literary works of Gowhar and praised his contribution to kashmiri literature. They said Gowhar was a multitalented Kashmiri author, novelist, poet, columnist and a veteran jurist who wrote about sixty books in Kashmiri, Urdu, and English languages on various subjects such as politics, literature, history and on Sufism.
