Trial of cases under NDPS Act | GCC J&K hails govt decision to set up special courts

Srinagar, Feb 23: The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) J&K has hailed the government’s decision to set up special courts for trial of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In a statement, the GCC hoped that expeditious trial and determination of cases filed before special courts will create the desired deterrence and thereby help a great deal in synergising the much-needed endeavour in combating drug abuse.

“The GCC has initiated a vigorous advocacy campaign on combating drug addiction and abuse, increasing its engagement with concerned agencies of police and civil administration, local communities and institutions,” the statement said.

It added that in this connection the GCC has stressed the importance of thana level police-public co-ordination dedicated to preventing drug abuse and also suggested to rope in other potential organisations like District Legal Services Authority, District Red Cross Society, Home Guards and Civil Defence, and National Extension Service as well.
