Trekkers conquer Sosriwan Pass in challenging Kashmir Expedition

Srinagar, Oct 14: In a remarkable display of endurance and mountaineering prowess, a team of 17 intrepid trekkers successfully scaled the formidable Sosriwan Pass, reaching an altitude of 4,130 meters above sea level.

The expedition, organised by Crampon Adventures and Badamwari Athletes, took place on October 6, 2024, revisiting the Katarnag lakes after a four-year hiatus and pushing further to explore the lesser-known Sosriwan lakes.

The trek began at Aru, Pahalgam, at 7:30 AM, with the team led by front leaders Sahil Qayoum and Showkat Kashmiri. Zahid Kota managed the middle of the pack, while Noman Bashir Lone and Sohail Yousuf Khan brought up the rear. The challenging route covered approximately 19.5 kilometers round trip, with an impressive elevation gain of about 2,000 meters.

By 11:30 AM, the group had reached Katarnag Lake 1, situated at 3,732 meters. After a brief rest, they pushed on towards the daunting Sosriwan Pass. Despite the difficulty, the team conquered this segment with relative ease, reaching the pass’s summit at 4,130 meters around 1:30 PM. Here, they were rewarded with breathtaking views of both Katarnag and Sosriwan areas.

The expedition also included a visit to Katarnag Lake 2 at 3,850 meters and the Sosriwan lakes at 3,630 meters. After spending 45 minutes at the pass summit, the team began their descent back to Katarnag at 1:45 PM. Following a well-deserved rest and lunch break, they commenced their final descent at 3:30 PM, arriving back at Aru by 6:30 PM.

This trek, classified as moderate to hard, showcased the raw beauty of Kashmir’s high-altitude landscapes while testing the limits of human endurance. The successful completion of this challenging route not only marks a significant achievement for the team but also highlights the potential for adventure tourism in the region.
