Transport Commissioner conducts surprise inspection of ARTO Office Ganderbal
Ganderbal, May 6: Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan conducted an unannounced inspection of the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) in Ganderbal today, uncovering several operational challenges while reviewing progress on critical infrastructure projects.
Accompanied by the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Qazi Irfan, the Commissioner’s visit focused on assessing service delivery standards and addressing mounting public complaints about delays in licensing procedures.
“Our goal is transparent, efficient service delivery without unnecessary hurdles,” Mahajan told staff during a departmental meeting where he emphasised punctuality and professional conduct. Sources indicate the visit was prompted by reports of irregular office hours and processing backlogs.
The Commissioner later inspected the proposed site for a new ARTO building and driving test track, expressing concern over apparent construction delays. “We’ve established strict timelines for completion,” Mahajan stated, directing officials to expedite work while maintaining quality standards.
In a significant development, Mahajan met with SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal to coordinate efforts addressing the district’s rising accident rate, particularly on the Srinagar-Leh highway. Their discussion centred on enhanced enforcement and technological solutions for improved traffic management.
The Commissioner has directed ARTO Ganderbal to submit a weekly progress report on both service improvements and construction activities.
