Training programme on mushroom cultivation in Ganderbal concludes

Srinagar, Dec 20: A training programme on ‘Low-cost Mushroom Cultivation: A Livelihood Prospect for Rural Youth’ by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir begins in Ganderbal.

The existing management development programme on ‘Low-cost Mushroom Cultivation: A livelihood Prospect for Rural Youth’ was organized by SKUAST-K’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal under the sponsorship of the Ministry Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India at Chanthan, Gulabpora in Block Lar of District Ganderbal.

Head, KVK Ganderbal, Dr Ishfaq Abidi along with his scientific staff is coordinating the program. A total of 25 trainees participated in the said programme. Dr Farooq Ahmad Ahanger coordinator of the programme along with various subject matter experts from different faculties & units, and experts from the Department of Agriculture discussed and deliberated on the entrepreneurship opportunities in Low-cost mushroom cultivation especially in button, dhingri and some medicinal mushrooms during these six days through lectures, demonstrations and field visits. The participants were acquainted with the latest techniques & were made familiar with functional units at DCTC centre of Agriculture Department Ganderbal and MRTC Unit, Division of Plant Pathology, SKUAST-K Shalimar. Interactive sessions were held with the participants who learnt about mushroom cultivation, harvesting, processing, value addition, marketing and spawn production and insect pest and disease management.
