TRAI takes action against over 21 lakh fraudulent numbers
New Delhi, Nov 24: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has urged mobile users to actively report spam and fraudulent calls or messages through the official TRAI DND App, stressing that blocking numbers on personal phones does not stop scammers from targeting others.
In the past year, TRAI, acting on user reports, has facilitated the disconnection and blacklisting of more than 21 lakh mobile numbers and around one lakh entities involved in spam and fraudulent communications.
This action, it said, underscores the impact of collective reporting in combating telecom misuse nationwide. TRAI clarified that when users report spam via the DND App, the information enables TRAI and telecom service providers to trace and permanently disconnect the offenders.
