Traffic restored on Srinagar-Leh NH

Ganderbal, Nov 17: The traffic movement on the Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway was restored on Sunday after the overnight closure due to snowfall in the area.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) started the snow clearance work on the Zojilla Pass along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway following the season’s first heavy snowfall on Saturday evening.

An official said that the machinery was pressed into service for snow clearance on the Zojilla Pass which experienced about 4 to 5 inches of snow on Saturday.

The road was closed as a precautionary measure and the road clearance work was started early Sunday morning with the improvement in weather.

An official said that after the road was cleared, the traffic movement was restored on the highway from Kargil's side.

The authorities urged the drivers to take precautions while travelling on the road.

Meanwhile, Sonamarg tourist destination also received a spell of light snowfall which draped the picturesque tourist resort in a white blanket besides dipping the temperature.
