Ramban, June 4: Vehicular traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained suspended for repair work from last evening till this morning.

The highway was closed for every type of traffic movement for road repair works at several places between Nashri and Banihal in Ramban district, on Monday 6 pm at Qazigund Kashmir, 5 pm at Nagrota, Jammu and at 6 pm at Udhampur.

Traffic officials in Ramban said during Monday night contractor companies of NHAI carried out road repair works at Hingni 1,Hingni 2, and 3, Upper and lower Nachlana, BDO Morh Magarkote , Tunnel T5, Panthyal and at Kishtwari Pathar.

They said some road stretches were blacktopped, and pot holes were filled at these locations by the concerned road maintenance agency NHAI.

However, Tuesday morning 8 am, light medium and heavy vehicles were allowed to ply on either side whereas heavy vehicles were allowed to move towards Jammu but for carrying out remaining road repair works both side traffic was once again stopped at Qazigund , Kashmir at 6pm, and at Nagrota, Jammu at 5pm , and Jakhani, Udhampur at 6pm. However road traffic between Udhampur and Banihal is being cleared.

They said traffic will remain suspended on Tuesday night and it will resume on Wednesday morning till the restoration work is completed at other locations between Nashri and Banihal in Ramban district.

Traffic authorities in Ramban today said both sides' traffic was suspended on the recommendations of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

They said NHAI has intimated that urgent repair and maintenance has to be carried out on highway between Ramban and Banihal during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

For this purpose, all types of vehicular movement will remain suspended.

They advised commuters and vehicle operators to avoid journeys on highway till the road repair work is completed.

Meanwhile traffic Police headquarters issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that subject to fair weather and good road condition light medium vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side whereas heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Kashmir from Jakhani, Udhampur after assessing road and traffic situation on highway on Wednesday.
