Traffic remained suspended for 5 hours on Sgr-Jmu NH
Ramban, Nov 24: Vehicular traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained suspended for five hours due to some construction works on a four-lane project between Nashri and Banihal on Friday.
The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic said, “Vehicular traffic remained suspended from Thursday midnight to Friday morning on Srinagar National Highway for five hours for launching girders at Nashri viaduct-1 and fixing of exhaust fans at Peerah-Kunfer and Tunnel, T-5, Panthyal.”
SSP Traffic National Highway, Ramban, Rohit Baskotra said that after undertaking necessary repairs, work traffic was resumed on the highway Friday morning.
However, officials said that the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles; single road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Magarkote, Nachlana and at other places due to poor road surface conditions between Nashri and Banihal tunnels.
Meanwhile, authorities said, “A construction company, engaged by NHAI is going to carry out girder laying work on a viaduct at Dalwass and fixing of exhaust fans at Peerah-Kunfer, and Tunnel, T-5, Panthyal, hence the traffic will remain suspended from Friday midnight up to Saturday morning between Nashri and Banihal tunnels for four hours.”
They said that the decision to halt the traffic was made to ensure the safety and well-being of the general populace, travellers and drivers.
