Traffic Police Rural acts tough against overcharging from tourists in Kashmir

Sonamarg, May 27: In continuation of the drive to curb overcharging at tourist destinations by the cab drivers, traffic police rural Kashmir have seized atleast three vehicles for overcharging from tourists at famous hill resort Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Monday, officials said.

Officials said that acting on the complaints of overcharging and improving visitor experience, the traffic police rural Kashmir conducted an inspection drive at tourist destination Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Monday. The drive led by Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh along with other officials witnessed the inspection of various vehicles including private, commercial vehicles during which three vehicles were seized for violations. The focus was on curbing overcharging and overloading to facilitate both tourists and locals. SSP said that three vehicles were seized for overcharging from tourists at Sonamarg on Monday.

SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that the drive was aimed to check the overcharging by vehicles carrying tourists.

"Three vehicles have been seized for overcharging at Sonamarg from the tourists, adding Such action of enforcement will continue till such types of violation practices are curbed and put to an end" SSP said.  "The commitment to enforcing traffic rules was evident in this extensive drive, which are being carried out across all the tourist places of Kashmir" SSP said. SSP said in the coming days, scheduled enforcement efforts will continue to ensure a seamless experience for tourists visiting Sonamarg.
