Traffic jamming
After a few weeks from now schools will reopen after the winter vacation. Large number of school busses and other vehicles, carrying the students, will get added on the roads again.
It has been noticed that traffic jamming increases further on roads during the movement of these vehicles. The traffic police department must chalk out plans in advance to deal with such a scenario. There is also an overall need to improve the traffic system.
During spring and summer due to increasing vehicular traffic movement, the jams occur frequently. Last year due to digging of roads, because of the work for the Srinagar Smart City Project, traffic jamming on such routes had become a routine.
The commuters would complain about losing their time unnecessarily in jamming. After the completion of the work in these areas, the traffic jamming was reduced to some extent. However, such work is presently going on in some more areas of the city and these areas have to face traffic jamming.
The concerned officials must take all the long term and short term measures for the improvement of the traffic scenario. The activities must not remain confined only to taking pictures of the vehicles or drivers violating the traffic rules, and fining them.
Taking action against those violating the traffic rules is good but addressing the growing problem of traffic jamming is also important. Adequate number of traffic personnel must be available for regulating the traffic. There is shortage of manpower. This problem needs to be solved.
All existing traffic lights must be made fully operational. Important crossings, not having traffic lights, must get traffic police personnel for regulating the movement of the vehicles. On the unmanned crossings, it becomes a free for all show and thus leading to traffic jamming.
The authorities must identify the routes and the spots where massive traffic jamming occurs frequently. Solutions must be found out to tackle the problem. Those driving too must ensure that they should avoid resorting to such acts causing jamming.
Wrong parking of vehicles on roads, movement on wrong side, overtaking wrongly and other such violations too cause traffic jamming. Efforts must be made so that no hurdles are caused in the smooth movement of the traffic.
The people must cooperate fully with the concerned officials in implementation of traffic rules. The traffic related problems have to be resolved collectively.
