Srinagar, July 26: Commuters have expressed reservations against traffic diversions at Jahangir Chowk saying these subject them to inconvenience.

They said that due to the multiple diversions in place, they have to take a long route to cross over to the other side and reach their destinations.

The commuters said that barricades have been put in place to divert traffic in various directions, which is hindering smooth flow of traffic.

“At several places in the City, these diversions have been put in place, and for the past few days, there have been more diversions at Jahangir Chowk, which is causing inconvenience to us. Just to cross over to the other side, we have to commute extra distances to make the turn,” said Adil Hussain, a commuter.

The commuters said that traffic coming from Solina or Karanagar has to bypass these diversions. They said that in order to reach Lal-Chowk, they have to navigate these diversions, which makes it hectic for them.

“Over the past few years, the smart city works have lingered on, and the city has been full of barricades following the construction work. Although some of these diversions have been removed, there are still many that are creating inconvenience. In the city centre, where we expect smooth traffic flow, the commuters are stuck in the maze of these diversion and U-turns,” said another commuter.

The commuters said that many commuters who don’t travel to Lal Chowk on a daily basis get confused with these diversions that keep changing and often get stuck in the traffic. The commuters appealed to traffic authorities to look into the issue and address it.
