Traffic curbs in Kargil on Nov 23; travellers to Srinagar asked to use bypass
Kargil, Nov 22: Traffic Police Kargil on Saturday issued a detailed traffic advisory announcing restrictions and diversions across Kargil town in view of the LAHDC Kargil “KSSRB” examination scheduled for Sunday. The curbs will remain in place from 8 am to 4 pm to ensure smooth movement for candidates appearing at multiple exam centres in and around the town.
Officials said the route leading to Government Degree College Kargil will remain restricted for general traffic, with only vehicles carrying candidates permitted to use the road. No vehicle will be allowed to move towards the college from the “Y” Junction, with traffic diverted towards Poyen or the MH side. Depending on ground conditions, similar diversions will be enforced from the MH Junction towards the Iqbal Bridge and the Gurdwara stretch.
At Poyen Crossing, entry into Poyen Market will remain prohibited. Vehicles from the Degree College side will be routed towards the NHW bypass, while traffic coming from other directions will be diverted towards the Degree College road.
Restrictions will also be in effect at BSNL Crossing, where vehicles heading towards the upper Chankchik route will be stopped and diverted towards Lal Chowk. Authorities have clarified that no roadside parking will be allowed anywhere in Kargil town during examination hours.
At Sawab School Crossing in Baroo, vehicles will not be allowed to proceed towards Baroo Shagaran and will instead be diverted towards Baroo Khan Ka or the Titi Chumik side.
Traffic Police Kargil said intermittent regulation will also be implemented at Lal Chowk and other critical junctions based on local requirements. Candidates scheduled to appear at HS Gongma, Lankore, and Girls Higher Secondary School have been advised to use the upper Chankchik route for easier access.
Travellers planning to move towards Srinagar, Drass, Leh or Zanskar on November 23 have been asked to use the bypass instead of passing through Kargil Bazaar or the circular route to avoid delays. (KNT)
