Baramulla, Dec 27: The District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, has issued a traffic advisory for vehicles traveling on the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road in view of the prevailing snowfall and slippery road conditions.

The advisory has been issued following communication from the Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Gulmarg, that there are considerable risks posed by the icy and snow-covered roads.

As per advisory, heavy vehicles and passenger buses are prohibited from traveling beyond Tangmarg.

Besides, light vehicles carrying essential commodities, passengers, or tourists may proceed to Gulmarg only if equipped with anti-skid chains.

The order also directs the Public Works Department (R&B) Tangmarg to ensure regular sprinkling of salt on frozen surfaces, followed by immediate removal of snow.

As part of precautionary measures, tourist vehicles will be permitted to travel on the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM only.

The Mechanical and Housing Division (M&HD) Baramulla has been directed to clear the snow from the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road and the Gulmarg bowl.

The order issued vide no. DMB/PS/9450-59, dated 27-12-2024, exempts government officials, including magistrates, army personnel, CAPF, and police on duty, from these restrictions.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Police Officer in Gulmarg have been directed to strictly enforce the measures.

"Any violation of this order is punishable under Section 223 of the BNSS, 2023," reads the order.

The district administration has urged the motorists to cooperate and adhere to the guidelines for their safety and that of others.
