Traders Federation Sopore, locals express concern over incomplete marriage hall
Sopore, Oct 7: Traders Federation Sopore, along with residents of Kraltang, Baba Yousuf, and Muslimpeer localities, have expressed deep concern and disappointment over the long-pending completion of the marriage hall near Jamia Masjid Sopore. The structure, which has remained incomplete for nearly eight years, was originally meant to serve as a community facility for marriage and social functions in the densely populated and low-lying areas of the town.
Locals said the building, which once symbolized hope for social convenience and community gatherings, has now turned into an eyesore and a hotspot for illegal and anti-social activities, including drug abuse. “This incomplete structure has become a nuisance. Instead of serving the community, it has become a shelter for unwanted elements,” said one of the residents.
Members of the Traders Federation Sopore echoed the same concern, urging the administration to take immediate steps to complete the project and hand it over for public use. “It is unfortunate that despite repeated appeals and reminders, the government has failed to finish this much-needed facility. The delay not only reflects administrative negligence but also poses a threat to the moral and social fabric of our society,” said a representative of the federation.
The residents have appealed to the district administration and concerned departments to prioritize the completion of the marriage hall project, ensuring it is made functional at the earliest. They have also demanded regular inspections to prevent misuse of the premises until the construction is completed. The people of Sopore have called upon higher authorities to intervene and ensure that the long-delayed promise of a community marriage hall for Kraltang, Baba Yousuf, and Muslimpeer areas is finally fulfilled.
