Srinagar, Dec 22: Traders who are tenants of the Government complex near Iqbal Park have decried the lack of basic facilities in the building.

In a statement, the president Traders Association Iqbal Complex said despite repeated requests to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Development Authority, basic facilities have not been provided in the complex. “Despite paying all dues and rent on time, SMC and SDA have failed to provide essential sanitation facilities at the complex. This negligence is causing severe inconvenience and poses health risks to the concerned community and the people visiting the Complex,” the statement said.

“For several months now, the Traders of Iqbal Complex have been raising concerns about lack of proper waste management services, inadequate sanitation infrastructure, and unclean public spaces, especially toilets and washrooms, but no action has been taken,” the statement said.

“It is disappointing that the traders, who have consistently been paying their rent and dues without fail, continue to suffer due to the inefficiency of the concerned authorities. Basic sanitation, including waste collection, street cleaning, and maintenance of public toilets, should be the responsibility of these bodies,” the traders said.

“We request the concerned authorities to take immediate steps towards restoring the sanitation and sewage disposal mechanisms of Iqbal Complex. Work on the public drainage system is currently undergoing near the complex. It is important to connect to the sewerage system of the complex with the public drainage system for its wastewater disposal,” the statement added.
