Tourist cafeteria, gazebo at Zachaldara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara lie in shambles
Kupwara, Jan 31: Nestled in the foothills of Bangus valley, a tourist cafeteria and a gazebo at Galganzar Zachaldara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have been left unattended by the authorities, resulting in their gradual deterioration.
Locals told Greater Kashmir that the tourist cafeteria was constructed a decade ago but has yet to be handed over to the Tourism Department. “We were happy when the construction of this cafeteria began. Although it was completed years ago, we don’t know why it has been abandoned,” said Farooq Bhat, a local resident.
“A huge amount of money was spent on its construction, so how can the authorities leave it in such a condition? The windows and glass panes of the cafeteria have been damaged by unknown elements. Had it been maintained, it would have been in much better condition,” he added.
Locals emphasized that the cafeteria's location along the Handwara-Rajwar-Bangus road makes it an ideal stop for tourists visiting Bangus valley.
“Even locals could set up stalls here, creating opportunities for employment,” said Syed Imtiyaz, a youth from Rajpora Rajwar, Handwara.
District Development Council (DDC) Member Rajwar, Sulaiman Mir, told Greater Kashmir that not only the Zachaldara cafeteria but also a tourist hut at Wader Balla and Wader Payeen have been left unattended, causing inconvenience to tourists visiting Bangus valley. “I am hopeful that this year, all these structures will be renovated so that tourists can use them,” he added.
