His upcoming election rally in Srinagar on September 19 (Thursday) is awaited with great anticipation and it would be a great success.

As Kashmiris, we have always welcomed him with open arms, acknowledging his efforts and recognizing the shifts in the political landscape under his leadership.

For decades, Jammu and Kashmir’s political climate was rife with chaos and disillusionment. It was marked by nepotism, religious bias, and self-serving leadership that did little to uplift the common Kashmiri. Instead, political discourse was often muddied by the personal gains of a few, leaving the populace to deal with broken promises and a sense of betrayal. However, in the past decade, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the political narrative of Kashmir has seen a significant transformation.

The government led by PM Modi has worked to bring about a semblance of stability in the region. The toxic elements that once fanned the flames of division and hatred have been sidelined. Violence, which had marred Kashmir for years, has notably decreased, allowing the common Kashmiri to breathe more freely. While there is still much to be done, this change has provided a sense of hope.

The atmosphere is no longer as stifling as it once was, and the narratives of hate and discord have become increasingly irrelevant.

Till August 5, 2019—when the PM Modi led regime announced its decision to abrogate Article 370—Kashmiri leaders used to feed people with slogans and rhetoric. For years, political rallies and speeches were filled with promises that seldom materialized.

However, during the past five years the promises made by the Centre have been fulfilled and J&K has witnessed development in every sphere.

As the electioneering is at peak in the Union Territory, leaders of regional parties are once again trying to mislead the people by promising them that they would get Article 370 back and provide them with the free electricity. But the people are not responding to their theatrics thus giving them a befitting reply.

The people of Kashmir during the past few years have witnessed meaningful development, genuine empowerment, and, most importantly, justice. Our region suffered immensely over the years, not just from political instability but from underdevelopment, unemployment, inadequate infrastructure and Pakistan sponsored terrorism. However, during the past few years situation has changed, the fear of gun-totting terrorists has ended. J&K has got better roads, reliable healthcare, quality education, and economic opportunities.

Not just another political event

PM Modi's rally in Srinagar is not just another political event, it’s an opportunity for him to address pressing concerns. The people of Kashmir are listening, and they are hopeful that PM Modi would once again keep up the promises he would make.

In the recent years, Kashmir has seen several development projects. There have been commendable initiatives such as the Srinagar Smart City project, improvements in connectivity, and efforts to boost tourism, these are just the beginning. There is a long road ahead, and it is essential that the focus remains on sustainable development.

The dispensation led by PM Modi has truly empowered J&K people by creating jobs, fostering industries, and improving access to education and healthcare. Initiatives like skill development programs, support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and investment in local infrastructure have helped in uplifting the region’s economy. The government has worked to ensure that Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and its unique identity are preserved, even as it undergoes rapid modernization.

In addition, agriculture sector, which is the backbone of Kashmir’s economy, has witnessed large scale innovations. Farmers have been supported with better irrigation systems, access to markets, and subsidies. The region’s horticulture industry, particularly the production of apples and saffron, has given a boost to J&K’s economy.

In his previous visits to Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi repeatedly pledged to win the hearts of Kashmiris. When he visited Srinagar in March this year, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, he reaffirmed this commitment.

Despite decades of conflict and uncertainty, the people of J&K have held on to hope. Now, they are looking for leadership that can channel that hope into real progress. Prime Minister Modi’s government has made significant strides and transformed J&K stands a testimony to it.

Prime Minister Modi has proven time and again that Kashmir holds a special place in his heart, and the people of Kashmir have always reciprocated with warmth and hospitality. But this relationship must now evolve into one that is built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a prosperous and peaceful future. The challenges are immense, but with the right leadership and a genuine commitment to the people, there is no reason why Kashmir cannot flourish in the years to come under PM Modi’s leadership.
