Total hip replacement surgery performed at GMC Handwara
Kupwara, Jun 11: The Department of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara successfully performed the first Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery on an 18-year-old girl suffering from an untreated hip dislocation for the past 11 months.
The surgery was carried out by a dedicated team of doctors led by Professor Dr Javid Ahmad Bhat, Head Department of Orthopaedics.
Dr Javid said that the successful surgery was a testament to the growing capabilities of GMC Handwara in advanced orthopaedic procedures.
ìDespite limited resources, we are committed to delivering quality care that matches national standards. We will continue with the same spirit and serve the people with dedication and excellence,î he said.
He said that the surgery would have cost over Rs 3 lakh to the patient if carried out in any private hospital.
The family of the patient hailed the efforts of doctors who carried out the procedure.
