Top Naxalite carrying 10 lakh award killed in Jharkhand encounter

New Delhi, Sep 7: A senior Naxalite commander, Amit Hansda, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa district on Sunday, reports national media quoting police officials.

Police officials said Hansda was a Zonal Commander of the banned CPI (Maoist) and carried a reward of ₹10 lakh on his head.

A cache of weapons, including an SLR rifle, was recovered from the spot. Jharkhand Police spokesperson and IG (Operations) Michaelraj S confirmed that the operation was carried out jointly by the CRPF’s elite COBRA battalion and the district police.
