Three of a family held in Srinagar, heroin recovered: Police
Srinagar, Feb 05: Srinagar Police have arrested three notorious drug peddlers belonging to the same family in the jurisdiction of Police Station Khanyar.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir; Muskan Gulzar Mir, daughter of Gulzar Ahmad Mir; and Ubaid Gulzar, son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir. All the accused are residents of Baghi Roop Singh, Miskeen Bagh, Khanyar.
An official said that acting on a specific information, a police team of Police Station Khanyar intercepted a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK01AW-8898. During search, substantial quantity of heroin, a banned narcotic substance worth lakhs of rupees, was recovered from their possession.
The vehicle used in the commission of the offence has also been seized, official said.
He also said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were actively involved in supplying narcotic drugs in Srinagar and had generated substantial illegal proceeds through drug trafficking, and the seized vehicle was reportedly purchased from the proceeds of this illicit trade.
An FIR No. 08/2026 under Sections 8/21–29 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act has been registered at Police Station Khanyar.
Further investigation is underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the drug network. Besides a comprehensive financial investigation is ongoing to identify and attach properties acquired through the illegal proceeds of crime, official added.
Srinagar Police reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate by sharing information related to narcotics.
