Three injured in police chase after armed attack on check post in Lakhanpur: Police

Jammu, Oct 08: Panic erupted in the Keerian-Gandayal outpost area under Lakhanpur police station when a routine checkpoint turned violent on Wednesday.

A top police officer told Kashmir News Corner --- KNC that, police personnel signaled a motorcycle coming from Punjab towards Jammu and Kashmir to stop, but the three youths riding the vehicle allegedly opened fire on the police party and attempted to flee.

During the pursuit, the motorcycle crashed near Keerian-Gandayal bridge, leaving all three riders seriously injured. They were immediately shifted to GMC Kathua, where officer said the condition of one of the accused is critical, officer said.

The injured youths are believed to be linked to a drug trafficking network and were involved in narcotics smuggling, officer said.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and launched further investigations into the case.
