Jammu, June 13: Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain Thursday asserted that the police and other security agencies were all geared up to confront a fresh security challenge posed by the adversary yet warned that ‘enemy agents’ would pay heavily for supporting foreign mercenaries.

He said that security forces in perfect synergy were mapping their all resources to tackle this challenge originating from across and not even a single terrorist pushed by Pakistan would be spared.

“Pakistan, not able to get local recruits, was sending its own people with clear intent to foment trouble here yet we’re determined to eliminate all of them,” DGP said.

He was responding to media queries, regarding a string of terror attacks witnessed in the past few days in Jammu region, including Katra in Reasi district, where he chaired a security review meeting earlier during the day.

“There is no denial to the fact that there is a security challenge here. Its root, its start-point is across (the border).  There is a clear intent of adversary or say enemy since it’s not able to recruit people here, provoke them or create disturbance, communal clash here and it has failed in its similar designs in Kashmir also; it is recruiting its own (Pakistan’s) people and is forcibly sending them here,” Swain said, in response to a question about Jammu situation.

“We have a vast and difficult terrain here – with dense forests, mountains, nullahs. Taking advantage of these factors, it (Pakistan) is sending foreign terrorists to create disturbance here, particularly in Jammu (region) and thus trying to spread a reign of terror. To realise this objective, the enemy is making desperate attempts and this is a fact,” he said.

“If you question the response to this push by the enemy, my answer will be that we’re readying ourselves to give a befitting response to it (push). We’re prepared to incur some losses, if we will have to while doing so in this war against terrorism. When a war is thrust upon us and we confront gun-toting terrorists ready to kill or get killed; faced with this scenario, we too are gearing up to tackle it (situation) in our best possible manner. We are mapping all our resources. We are trying to give them a befitting reply to them,” J&K’s top cop said.

He stated that the number of terrorists was not very high.

“Only problem is that they don’t follow the rule of law. They don’t have families to look after here. That’s why their potential to cause damage seems to be and they cause extensive damage. But rest assured, none of them (terrorists) will be spared. We will eliminate them all,” he reassured.

He stated that earlier from 1995-2005, when they (terrorists) had tried to create turmoil in Jammu region, particularly in Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, people faced them valiantly.

“Army, police and paramilitary forces had worked in perfect synergy and used their full might to flush them out. They, while making supreme sacrifices, successfully eliminated them (terrorists) and cleared it (region). If the enemy is posing a similar challenge in front of us yet again then we too are resolute; we are committed to give them a befitting response and eliminate them all. They are few in number and we’ll ensure that once they enter here, their life-span will be as shortened as possible,” Swain said.

ON POTENTIAL TERROR THREAT TO AMARNATH YATRA

Responding to a question about potential threat to Amarnath Yatra, DGP said, “As earlier I’ve stated that their (adversary’s) intent is to create disturbance here. They want to spoil the fabric of peace, which is flourishing here. To fulfil these designs, they are sending their own people as they are not getting local recruits. Yes, there are some enemy-agents here. They are readily available against money, narcotics. Those few people do help them (terrorists). Many of them have been identified. This process (to identify terrorists’ supporters) is on and others will also be identified.”

Warning them of dire consequences for their activities compromising the interests of the country, he said, “We want to warn them (supporters or accomplices) that terrorists will definitely be killed; sooner or later. They don’t have any stakes or families here. Do they even have children or not - we know nothing about them. Whether they are being picked up from jails to recruit and send here; who are being brought are – we have no idea.”

“But here those few (local) people, who are trying to help them in any manner; providing them with logistic support or creating a support-system for them (terrorists) here – they will definitely repent a lot. Because they have their all stakes here. They (supporters) have their families, land, properties, jobs and children here. If they indulge in anti-national activities and work against the interests of the country, they will have to pay heavily for it,” DGP Swain cautioned.

Earlier security review meeting was also attended by Reasi DC Vishesh Mahajan; DIG Udhampur-Reasi range Rayees Mohammad Bhat and SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma.
