Srinagar, Oct 21: The newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) on Monday stated that the newly formed National Conference led government will be pro people.

The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief and MLA Shalteng, Tariq Hameed Karra said taking oath after a gap of 10 years was a good moment to witness.

“The people of Kashmir are very excited to see their elected government being formed,” he said.

Karra however termed the Gagangeer attack sad and hoped that the government and other agencies will probe it as soon as possible.

National Conference MLA, Altaf kalloo said that the people of Kashmir were excited with the formation of the elected government.

“This will be a pro-people government and all the issues and problems faced by the people will be raised in the Assembly,” he said.

On restoration of Article 370, he said that the decision has to be taken by the party. He was however quick to add that the party stands by its words.

The legislators were interacting with the media persons outside the premises of civil Secretariat Srinagar.

MLA Zadibal, Tanveer Sadiq while talking to reporters said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting for this day for so many years to have the government of their own elected representatives.

“The day has come. I would like to congratulate the people that their candidates will now take oath in the assembly. It is a good day and the time to work for the public welfare has now come,” Sadiq said.

He however condemned the Gagageer attack and demanded exemplary punishment to the killers.

“We condemn this attack. We express our solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones,” he said.

NC legislator, Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri while talking to reporters said that people have given their votes and have expectations from their leaders as well.

“We will ensure that we will fulfill our promises that we have made during elections and come up to their expectations,” he said.

BJP MLA Sunil Sharma said that oath taking ceremony was a routine process wherein the elected MLA takes pledge under the constitution of India to maintain its integrity. “Today, we have the responsibility of the opposition on our shoulders. It is also a challenge for us and we have to perform our responsibility to protect the rights and interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

BJP MLA Davender Rana said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have shown their trust in the democracy of India.

“There has been a positive change in Jammu and Kashmir and we are seeing a new Kashmir. The people of Jammu and Kashmir will work together to make a better Jammu and Kashmir. A new level of peace, tranquility and development will be established,” he said.
