This election is not for roads, electricity: Mehbooba Mufti
Ganderbal, May 10
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said that this election is not about building roads or water and electricity supply but about safeguarding the identity of Jammu and Kashmir, its youngsters and their dignity, and saving Jammu and Kashmir's resources.
She was addressing party workers and media persons during a road show in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district here. She was accompanied by PDP candidate for Srinagar parliamentary constituency Waheed -ur -Rehman Parra and state secretary Bashir Ahmed Mir. The Srinagar parliamentary constituency is going to polls on May 13.
"This election is not for roads and electricity. There are problems like unemployment that need to be raised besides other issues, which we are being facing post-2019 development,” Mehbooba said.
The PDP president said that it is the right time for the people of Kashmir to give vent to their feelings by casting vote for the candidate who raises their voice in the Parliament.
On the Supreme Court granting interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal, the PDP President said that she welcome the Supreme Court order. " I am happy that Arvind Kejriwal has finally been granted interim bail. Bail is a right, but it is very strange that it takes so much time to get it even when the offence is not proven," Mehbooba said.
She stated that the main reason for fielding Waheed- ur- Rahman Parra from the Srinagar constituency is that there is no person other than him who can relate to the pain of a common Kashmiri and represent them in the parliament. "Waheed was accused of freeing jailed youth, rehabilitating downtrodden families. He himself has come from a humble background, and there is no other person more able than him to represent the people, their real aspirations, and needs in the parliament .He represents those youth who are being inflicted torture, who are being jailed, hounded and ridiculed,” Mehbooba said.
“Therefore, he will go to parliament and represent those bruised voices there. He will rather become their voice there," she said.
Reacting to the notice served to Parra by election authorities for telling people that vote “should be your referendum”, the PDP President said that he ( Waheed) will respond to the notice in this regard.
