Thieves on prowl at Mustafabad

Srinagar, Aug 27: Residents of Mustafabad Sector 2nd, Lane No. 3 (Kaluena) area of Zainakote here on the city outskirts have expressed serious concern over frequent theft incidents in the area.

“Thieves and unscrupulous persons are on the prowl in our locality. There have been several theft incidents in our areas. Due to the presence of thieves and drug addicts especially in evening and night hours, fear has gripped the entire locality,” Masjid Committee, Masjid Rehmat e Aalam said in a statement.

“A few plots without fencing give such elements ample space to carry out these illegal activities. Authorities must direct the owners of vacant land to fence it immediately,” the statement said.

“A few days back a thief had entered into a house in broad daylight. However a female present in the house raised hue and cry, the thief attacked her with some sharp weapon before fleeing from the spot. The concerned police station was informed about the incident,” the residents said.

They also demanded installation of street lights in lanes and bylanes to discourage the movement of thieves and anti-social elements. “We make a fervent appeal to SSP Srinagar to direct the concerned SHO to undertake frequent patrolling of our area and take measures to arrest unscrupulous persons and restore a sense of security among the aggrieved residents,” they added.
