Roads in several areas of Srinagar city, particularly in Downtown, were inundated on Saturday morning after rains lashed the city. The commuters faced problems while moving on such roads. The local residents blame the defunct drainage system in their areas for the water-logging.

Such problems prevailed earlier also but people say that due to haphazard laying of drainage pipelines and the construction of roads under the Srinagar Smart City Project, the problem has got aggravated. They added that even slow pace of the works adds to the problem.

The concerned authorities must look into these grievances of the people and address those at the earliest so that the people do not suffer. All corrective measures need to be taken in this direction.

All development projects are aimed at easing the life of common people and provide more facilities to them. But if sometimes due to some reason problems occur these should be solved immediately. The drainage system in several areas is already defunct.

This system needs to be replaced with effective and optimally operational system. Some areas do not have drainage facility at all. The facility must be provided in these areas also. Srinagar city is the face of Kashmir, so all measures must be taken to develop it, and make its system efficient.

A good drainage system is very crucial to a modern urbal planning, otherwise the roads would continue to get converted into pools whenever rains occur and the commuters will continue to face problems. Residents face added problems in absence of a drainage system.

There is also a requirement to increase the number of stationed and mobile de-watering pumps. Small number of pumps cannot cater all the areas. While such pumps are used on major roads but their is need to put in place such pumps on other roads also.

Some roads remain inundated for a long time as no dewatering pump is available there. There is a need to bring over-all improvement in the drainage system, so that such problems do not surface up.
