Thajiwas glacier collapse incident: Missing labouer's body retrieved

Sonamarg, June 03: The body of a missing local labourer (sledge rider), who disappeared after falling into a snow cavity due to the breakdown of a portion of Thajiwas Glacier in the hill station of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Sunday, has been recovered by rescue teams. Two tourists were rescued soon after the incident on Sunday.

The rescue operation resumed this morning with the participation of police, SDRF, tourism police, army, and local volunteers to locate the missing laborer. The body of the missing sledge rider was retrieved from the snow cavity this morning.

Officials identified the deceased as Manzoor Ahmad Khan (18), son of Mohd Yousuf Khan, a resident of Haknar Gund. The body has been shifted to PHC Sonamarg for medico-legal formalities.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident.
