Textile Minister honours WWEPC for contribution to success of Bharat Tex
Srinagar, Mar 13: Union Textile Minister, Giri Raj Singh presented a certificate of appreciation to WWEPC (Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council) for their contribution to the success of Bharat Tex 2025 recently held in New Delhi.
The certificate was received by Dr. Romesh Khajuria, Chairman, WWEPC, Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India during a thanksgiving event celebrating the success of Bharat Tex 2025 in New Delhi.
A statement said Dr. Romesh Khajuria thanked the Minister of Textiles for recognising team WWEPC’s hard work during Bharat Tex 25 (BT25). After receiving the certificate, Dr. Khajuria stated that BT25, a global scale trade fair held in 2.2 million sq ft area, attracted 1,25,000+ visitors and 9,900+ buyers, including 6,600+ foreign buyers (more than double from the previous year BT24) from 140+ countries, with an estimated export potential of USD 2 to 2.5 billion.
Dr Khajuria further stated that BT25 was “a tapestry of experience: celebration of Textiles” as Indie Haat celebrated India’s artisanal heritage with 85 master craftspersons showcasing 80+ handicraft styles including Pashmina Shawls, Paithani sarees, Kalam Kari painting and many more. Fashion shows “Breathing Threads” and “North East Show” along with sustainability awards were also part of BT25, featuring 30 live craft demonstrations, preserving and promoting India’s craft legacy on a global platform.
Dr. Romesh Khajuria also highlighted the global textiles dialogue with 80+ knowledge sessions on 12 thematic pillars, 120+ B2G and G2G meetings, 403 speakers from over 30 countries, and 40 knowledge partners, including 10 multilateral agencies. Twenty-two states, 7 textile-based development boards, and 4 prestigious academic institutions participated in BT25.
He described a vibrant textile ecosystem with 71 startup applications, 48 investors, and 29 sustainability innovator awards. A report on startups by IIT Madras was also released. “It’s like a Chintan Shivir on textiles for four days,” he said, with various MoUs and seminars contributing to making it a grand event. The outcomes of the knowledge sessions and discussions will help in policy-making decisions by the Ministry of Textiles to promote the textile industry.
The success of BT25 can be gauged by the fact that 91% of the exhibitors rated the event positively, with 83% confirming continued participation. Among buyers, 97% intend to return, with 78% expressing strong purchase intent. The overall satisfaction score was 4.4/5 from exhibitors and 4.5/5 from buyers, Dr. Khajuria added.
