Terrorist killed in Shopian encounter: Police

Srinagar, Nov 9: A local terrorist was killed during an overnight encounter in a joint operation of Police and Army in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police identified him as Maiser Ahamd Dar alias Adil, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Vishroo Payeen, Shopian and arms ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.

“#Encounter has started in Kathohalan area of #Shopian. Police and the Army are on the job. Further details shall follow.@JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone Police posted on X.
Later in another post on X, Police said the terrorist was killed.
“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: One (01) #terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit TRF neutralised. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow.@JmuKmrPolice,” Police posted on X.

Police sources said he had joined terror ranks recently and repeated appeals were made to him for surrender but he denied it.
A statement from the Police issued here said that acting on specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in the village Kathohalan area of Shopian district, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Police from Shopian and Army’s 2 Rajput in the area.

“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the terrorist fired indiscriminately at them, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” Police said.

“In the ensuing encounter, a local terrorist identified as Maiser Ahmad Dar linked with proscribed terror outfit TRF was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter,” Police said. “Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.”
In this regard, a case under the relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, Army’s Chinar Corps posted on X, “Based on specific int inputs a joint operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of 08-09 Nov at Kathohalan, Shopian. Contact was established. One terrorist has been eliminated along with the recovery of weapons and other war-like stores. #Kashmir @adgpi @NorthernComd_IA.”
