Terrorist associate arrested in Kupwara: Police

Kupwara, May 16: In a joint operation by the Army and Police, a man was held along with arms and ammunition in the Kralpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.

A statement of J&K Police issued here said, “In a major operation carried out by the joint security forces of Police in Kupwara, Army’s 3 Naga and 97 Bn of the BSF in the frontier Kupwara district, based on specific information received by Police in Kupwara, a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.”

The statement said that on specific information, Police in Kupwara established a checkpoint at Lone Harie and during checking, a terrorist associate Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rahman of Patru Keran was apprehended by the party at the checkpoint and from his possession and after his disclosure, substantial quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered that include two pistols, two pistol magazines, 10 hand grenades, and 54 9-mm rounds,” the statement said.

A formal case in this regard has been registered at Police Station Kralpora and an investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, in another joint operation by the Army and Police, arms and ammunition were recovered in the Amrohi area of Tangdhar in Kupwara, the Army said.

Army’s Chinar Corps in a post on the microblogging site ‘X’ said that the operation was launched by Army and Police in Amrohi, Tangdhar, Kupwara.

“On specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army and J&K Police in the general area Amrohi, Tangdhar, Kupwara on Wednesday. During the search, two pistols, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered,” Chinar Corps-Indian Army said.
