Terror plot foiled, 3 arrested: Police
Srinagar, Nov 6: A terror plot was foiled by arresting three individuals and recovering arms and ammunition from their possession, thereby averting a potential attack, Police said on Thursday.
A statement of J&K Police issued here said that in a major success against anti-national activities, it foiled a terror attempt when, during routine vehicle checking near Mamta Chowk, Konakhan, Dalgate, a Police team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a black Royal Enfield motorcycle without a registration number.
“On being signalled to stop, the rider and two pillion passengers attempted to flee but were tactfully apprehended by alert personnel on duty,” it said.
Police identified the arrested individuals as Shah Mutayib, son of Manzoor Ahmad Shah of Koolipora Khanyar; Kamran Hassan Shah, son of Ghulam Hassan Shah of Koolipora Khanyar and Muhammad Nadeem, son of Muhammad Yaseen Salmani of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Kawa Mohalla, Khanyar.
It said that a search of their possession led to the recovery of one country-made pistol and nine live rounds.
“The preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were planning to carry out a terror-related act in the locality using the recovered weapon and ammunition,” the Police said. “Accordingly, FIR No 51/2025 has been registered at Police Station Khanyar under Sections 3, 7, and 25 of the Arms Act and 20 and 23 of the UAPA, and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.”
It said that further investigation was in progress to identify their associates, network, and possible links with other subversive elements.
“The swift and professional action of the Police once again demonstrates its commitment to maintaining peace and public safety in the city,” the Police statement said.
