Terror attack on Army camp in Rajouri averted

Rajouri, July 7: The Army Sunday averted a terror attack on one of its camps in Rajouri district.

An Army sentry deployed at a post in the camp sustained injuries in the initial exchange of gunfire that continued for half an hour on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at the headquarters of a Territorial Army battalion in Galuti Patrara village of Manjakote Police Station in the district.

Official sources said: “The firing incident occurred around 3:40 am on Sunday. Suspected terrorists fired at a sentry post of this headquarters. The fire was promptly retaliated and responded to by Army men deployed as sentries for the protection of the camp. The exchange of fire lasted more than half an hour.”

They said that during the exchange of fire, an Army man, who was posted as sentry, sustained a bullet injury and was immediately shifted to the nearest medical facility of the Army.

He is presently under treatment in the Army Hospital.

“Prompt response of the alert Army men foiled this attack,” official sources said.

However, the Police as well as the Army did not issue any official statement on this incident.

Locals in the area also heard gunshots for more than half an hour in the morning.
