Teenage girl found dead in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Aug 17: A teenage girl was found dead in Sehpora area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday. An official said that the body of a 14-year-old girl was recovered on Sunday from Batsar Road in Sehpora area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Locals said that the girl had left her home around 10 am with her elder sister to collect vegetables. The location of the incident was barely 300 meters from their residence in Batsar, Sehpora Ganderbal. “When they were on the road, a car with some persons in it has stopped near them and the men tried to grab them, adding that the elder sister, who is in her early 20s, managed to escape and ran home to inform the family” they said. When the family and neighbours rushed to the spot, they found the younger girl lying in the field. A police team arrived shortly afterward to secure the scene and begin the investigation.

SSP said that a case has been registered, while a forensic team from Srinagar has joined the investigation. He assured that the accused would be traced and will face stringent action under law.

Meanwhile, the body after medical and legal formalities was handed over to the family for last rites. The incident has caused shock and grief in the area. Locals have demanded swift action and strict punishment for those involved in the heinous crime.

Some evidence was also recovered. “Accordingly, a case under Section 103 BNS (murder) has been registered and a SIT has been constituted for detailed investigation,” SSP Poswal said.

He added, “To ascertain who the culprits are, we have also called in teams from Srinagar. Our forensic experts are on the job, and with technical analysis of CCTV cameras, we are confident of working out the case. I urge people to maintain calm. A board of doctors has also been constituted to ensure a thorough investigation.”
