Teen dies in Malansar Lake drowning, police launch probe

Ramban Aug 29: A 19-year-old youth died after drowning in Malansar Darad lake in Ukhral tehsil on Thursday, officials said, as police began an investigation into the incident.

As per the police sources, a youth identified as Mohammad Idress Rounyal (19), son of Shaifq Ahmed Rounyal, a resident of Panla, Maligam Pogal tehsil, Ukhral district, Ramban, along with friends, had gone to a picnic on a hillock in Maligam Pogal.

Police sources said while taking a bath in Malansar Darad Lake, Idrees drowned on Thursday afternoon.

His companions informed police, SDRF and local volunteers, who rushed to the spot and retrieved the body of the youth from Malansar Lake Thursday night.

Police said after conducting a postmortem and other legal formalities at PHC Ukhral, the body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.

SHO Police Station Ramsu Inspector Nayeem Ahmed confirmed the incident and said an inquest proceeding was initiated at Police Station Ramsoo for further investigations.
