TECHKNOW 2025: AI is changing jobs, education must keep pace: Omar Abdullah
Srinagar, Sep 15: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that while the Valley’s youth possess immense talent, they lack adequate exposure and opportunities, particularly in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics.
His remarks came during TechKnow, J&K’s largest student-led tech initiative, organised by Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar.
“I did not expect an AI and Robotics project to deliver a speech so effectively. The students prepared and brought it to life in a way that shows they can go anywhere and achieve success,” Abdullah said, praising the creativity and technical skills of the participants.
The Chief Minister highlighted that government schools lag behind private institutions in providing access to modern technological tools and skill-building platforms. “We do not give children as many opportunities as we should. Technow has shown us the level of potential our students have, and it is now our responsibility to bridge this gap,” he said, adding that he will discuss measures with Education Minister Sakina Itoo.
Abdullah emphasised collaboration between private and government schools, particularly in remote areas where private institutions are scarce. He acknowledged the role of seasonal schools and dedicated teachers in ensuring learning continuity in these regions.
Technow, a two-day event fully designed and executed by DPS Srinagar students, featured hands-on workshops and competitions in AI, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, coding, and other emerging technologies. The initiative showcased how students are embracing advanced tech, reflecting the changing education landscape.
Pointing to the global transformation brought by AI, CM Abdullah noted, “Jobs that once required graduates in areas such as data management and software development are increasingly being handled by AI. Our education system must evolve at the same pace to equip students with the skills needed for the future.”
He concluded by stressing the importance of such platforms in nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir’s students are prepared for the digital revolution.
